Grandkid Messes

happychildren

Yesterday’s play;

Gets all put away;

Except for the rips and stains;

of past giggles.

~     *     ~     *

Focus on the work;

Sigh over tiny fingers that jerk;

Away with the tidy- making you frugal;

And PRIM.

~     *     ~     *

Old Miss Grumpy-Frump;

Eyes piercing, back-a-hump;

Scolding and forgetting the joy of it all.

~     *     ~     *

But you’re a Grandma now;

You’ve learned the total truth;

It all goes too fast;

Little hugs, piping voices, and youth.

~     *     ~     *

So take the second chance;

ABSORB EVERY TRUSTING GLANCE;

Kiss the faces and hold pudgy, sticky hands;

And thank God this sweet love came your way again.
